Awards

Snow Leopard Enterprises in Mongolia have been named winners at the 7th annual World Challenge Awards for innovative social and environmental businesses. The two runners-up are Recycla from Chile and Hand in Hand from India. This year's top three projects scooped $40,000 in prize money at the awards ceremony in Amsterdam after winning the most support in the public vote. European Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard gave the keynote speech at the event, and hailed World Challenge as proving global growth can be more sustainable. "When everybody challenges that we can't do the transformation we need, I know that it's not true, you know that it's not true, we see so many activities going on and this is the kind of effort and the kind of examples we need in the world of the 21st century," she noted.
