2010 Winner saluted by Philippine Congress for World Challenge Award.

Last December the Philippines-based Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation Inc. won top prize at 2010's World Challenge Awards Ceremony.

Chief Executive Officer Auke Idzenga and his team employed ram pump technology, first used in the UK in the 18th Century, to help transport water to isolated mountain villages in the country's Visayas region and beyond.

In recognition of AIDFI's work, Auke was invited last month to receive a special commendation from the country's House of Representatives.

Congressman Neri Colmenares and 17 other congressmen and women from the Visayas province introduced the award, which was read out by  House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr.

The organisation had earlier been awarded the Filippino Daily Star's  'Newsmaker of the Year 2010' award.

The World Challenge competition has always enjoyed a strong following in the Philippines, dating back to 2005 when the Philippines Coconets project won first prize in the contest's inaugural series.
