The Prince of Wales has launched an exhibition showcasing some of the innovations in the running for the 2012 Earth Awards.
Founded by Nicole Yap, The Earth Awards is billed as "a global search for viable design solutions that will enable a more sustainable future". Design ideas and sustainable innovations in several categories are selected from nominees by a committee of entrepreneurs, media personalities, designers, academics and environmentalists including Sir Richard Branson, Diane Von Furstenberg, Philippe Starck, Sir Terence Conran and Graydon Carter.
The exhibition will be held in the Royal Gardens of Clarence and Lancaster House in a salvaged sea container, specially converted into a gallery space for the event. The exhibition will showcase promising Earth Award 2012 candidates such as The Ecological Sequestration System by Peter Head, The BrazilChair designed by Daniel Widrig and Ask Nature biomimicry by Janine Benyus which features Shark Paint and Solar Ivy.
"The Earth Awards has identified some of the most promising designs and technologies that address some of the biggest challenges of our time," said Joey Tabone, CEO of the Prince's environmental charity START.

There are six categories in the 2012 Earth Awards: Product, Built Environment, Future, Systems, Fashion and Social Justice. Each category winner will receive US$10,000 and the Grand Prize Winner will receive a total of US$50,000 at a gala event in London. Winning designers will also be introduced to investors in a bid to bring the best ideas to market.
