Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrated
Tue, 22 Nov 2011 11:51

Around the world business and political leaders marked last week's celebration of entrepreneurship.
The week began with various special events to kick off national campaigns in support of the ongoing observance. Organisers the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation claim that this year 123 countries will take part, engaging more than 10 million current and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Politicians ranging from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Karim Masimov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, pledged their support at the beginning of the week. US President Barak Obama had earlier declared November as National Entrepreneurship Month in reaction to the wider global celebrations.
Political support has been backed up by the business world, with the starting bell in both the US and Turkish Stock Exchanges being rung on Monday to mark the occasion. The computer manufacturer Dell announced the launch of its new Entrepreneur-In-Residence website, alongside various other private sector initiatives.
Complementing action from the private and public sector has been support from the 'third sector' - the charities, NGOs and social enterprise organisations that work finding entrepreneurial solutions to social problems. Social Enterprise UK marked Thursday 17 November as Social Enterprise Day 2011, whilst major events took place in Rwanda, Bahrain and Egypt.
